Glutathione is produced naturally in our cells but only if the required building blocks are available. As an antioxidant, glutathione is present in every cell in your body to protect them from free radicals and oxidative stress, which is caused by environmental pollutants, diet, stress, and even exercise, just to name a few.
Just as a car generates exhaust when it burns gasoline to produce energy, the body’s natural processes generate “exhaust” as well-free radicals. These in turn can start chain reactions of oxidative stress that damage cells. Preventing these chain reactions is critical, as oxidative stress has been associated with more than 74 major diseases and disorders.
Antioxidants halt these chain reactions, however not every antioxidant is created equal. For example, when Vitamin C has completed its journey in neutralizing harmful free radicals, it too becomes a weak free radical. Furthermore, your body cannot utilize the Vitamin C in the orange juice you drank this morning unless Glutathione is present. The reason Glutathione is considered a super hero is because the body recycles it after it has completed its free radical neutralizing task so that it can be sent out again and again.
Why you need it
You don’t have to be a scientist or an antioxidant guru to appreciate everything that Glutathione can do for you and your cells. As you increase your glutathione levels, you can experience multiple benefits because Glutathione:
- Is a primary cell detoxifier which is present in every cell in the body.
- Keeps each cell consistently detoxified which means each cell functions optimally at the job it was designed for, ie: a liver cell functions as the best liver cell it can be, a brain cell functions as the best brain cell it can be, etc.

The downside of glutathione is that the production of it in our bodies slows as we age, leaving us vulnerable to oxidative stress and its associated ailments.
